How to plan your dream day from sunrise to sunset (and beyond)...

If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “Do we need a timeline if we’re eloping?” — you’re not alone. Most couples imagine elopements as spontaneous, stress-free adventures where the clock doesn’t matter... and while that’s mostly true (hallelujah, no 10-hour reception schedules!), a loose, flexible timeline can actually give you more freedom — not less.

After photographing elopements all over the world, from the Scottish Highlands to the California coast, I’ve helped dozens of couples create timelines that feel intentional, relaxed, and adventure-filled — not rushed or overpacked.

So if you're wondering what really happens on an elopement day, let’s break it down together.

First things first: Why do you even need a timeline?

Elopement days don’t have to be a free-for-all. Having a plan means you get to relax and be fully present—knowing that you’ve carved out time for everything that matters most. Whether that’s sipping espresso in your Airbnb before sunrise, hiking to an epic view, or FaceTiming your parents after the ceremony... we’ll make sure your timeline supports the feel you’re going for.

A timeline ensures we don’t forget those little moments — like reading private vows, stopping for croissants at your favorite café, or catching golden hour at the perfect overlook. It also gives us breathing room if the weather shifts, if we decide to linger at a spot you love, or if you want to detour for something spontaneous.

So... What Does a Full-Day Elopement Actually Look Like?

Here’s the thing: Elopements aren’t “just a few hours of photos.” They’re your entire wedding day. You deserve a timeline that honors the full scope of your story.

Here’s a sample 8-hour elopement timeline to give you a peek into how it could flow:

Pro Tips for Crafting Your Elopement Timeline

Here are some helpful nuggets I share with all my couples:

- Leave buffer time.

Getting from place to place, taking a breath, or having a spontaneous moment? Yes please. Don’t overschedule.

- Sunrise & sunset matter.

These are the most magical times of day for light and privacy—especially if you’re eloping somewhere popular.

- Plan for the adventure.

Hiking? Driving? Changing clothes in the car? We’ll factor in all the behind-the-scenes stuff so nothing feels rushed.

- Build in celebration.

Your day deserves more than a quick “I do.” Let’s include a meal, a toast, a dance, a moment of peace—whatever feels like you.

- Think in story, not snapshots.

The day isn’t just about epic photos. It’s about telling your story with intention, feeling, and flow. That’s what you’ll remember forever. And your day isn't a photo shoot every single minute of your day, there will be moments when my camera is down, and we are simply having fun conversation and enjoying our day, but rest assured, I'll be capturing all the magical moments throughout the entire day!

Here’s what I want you to remember — this isn’t just a photoshoot. This is your wedding day. It deserves time, space, and intentionality.

Whether we’re wandering through a Scottish glen, hiking through wildflower fields, or sipping wine on a rooftop in Florence, your timeline should feel like you. It should hold space for laughter, tears, quiet moments, wild joy, and genuine connection.

If you’ve been dreaming of an elopement day that’s built around your story, not a cookie-cutter script — I’m here to help make it happen. I’ll help you create a timeline that lets your love story unfold naturally and beautifully... and then I’ll be there to document every second of it.

Because this isn’t just a day you’ll remember. It’s a day you’ll relive, again and again.
